Tomer Hemed (Hebrew: תומר חמד; born 2 May 1987) is an Israeli professional footballer. He played as a forward, which means he was a player who mainly tried to score goals.

Early Life and Family

Tomer Hemed was born and grew up in Kiryat Tiv'on, Israel. His father's family came from Syria, and his mother's family came from Poland. Because of his mother's background, Tomer also has a Polish passport. This made it easier for him to play football in European countries. He is the youngest of four brothers.

Tomer is a religious person. In September 2018, he was a substitute for Queens Park Rangers in a game. He waited until after the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur ended to play. During Yom Kippur, people do not eat or exercise for 24 hours. After breaking his fast, he joined the game.

In 2013, Tomer married Shunit Faragi, an Israeli model. She was second in the Miss Israel contest in 2008. They have three daughters together.

Club Football Career

Tomer Hemed has played for many football clubs throughout his career. He started in Israel and then moved to play in Spain, England, and Australia.

Starting at Maccabi Haifa

Tomer joined Maccabi Haifa's main team in early 2006. He had been scoring many goals for their under-18 team. He played three times for the main team and scored one goal.

He made his first professional appearance on 3 March 2007. He came on as a substitute in a game against Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv. Tomer scored his first professional goals on 26 May, scoring twice in a 2–0 win against Maccabi Herzliya.

Tomer was then loaned to other Israeli clubs like Maccabi Herzliya, Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv, and Maccabi Ahi Nazareth. He returned to Maccabi Haifa in 2010. In the 2010–11 season, he played 45 matches and scored 18 goals. His team, Maccabi Haifa, won the league championship that year.

Playing in Spain: Mallorca and Almería

On 21 June 2011, Tomer signed a three-year contract with RCD Mallorca, a Spanish club in La Liga. La Liga is the top football league in Spain. He played his first game in Spain on 28 August.

Tomer scored his first goals in Spain on 1 October, scoring twice in a 2–2 draw against CA Osasuna. He also scored two goals in his first Copa del Rey (Spanish cup) game. In his first season, he scored nine goals. In his second season, he scored 11 goals, but Mallorca was relegated to a lower league. In May 2013, Tomer had a serious leg injury that kept him from playing for seven months.

On 2 July 2014, Tomer returned to the top Spanish league, joining UD Almería. He scored his first goal for Almería on 4 October. He finished the 2014–15 season as the club's top scorer with eight goals. However, Almería was also relegated that season.

Time with Brighton & Hove Albion

On 24 June 2015, Tomer signed a three-year deal with Brighton & Hove Albion, an English club in the Championship. He scored his first goal for Brighton from a penalty kick, helping them win 2–1 against Fulham. He finished his first season as Brighton's top scorer with 17 goals.

In the 2016–17 season, Tomer Hemed scored 13 goals. Brighton won promotion to the Premier League, which is the highest football league in England. This was a big achievement for the club.

On 9 September 2017, Tomer scored his first Premier League goal for Brighton in a 3–1 win. He scored again in Brighton's next home game on 24 September. A few days later, he received a three-match ban for an incident during a game. On 16 November 2017, Tomer signed a new contract with Brighton.

Loan to Queens Park Rangers

On 23 August 2018, Tomer joined Queens Park Rangers (QPR) on a loan for one season. He scored his first goal for QPR on his debut two days later, helping them win 1–0.

Later Club Moves

On 19 August 2019, Tomer joined Charlton Athletic on a one-year contract after leaving Brighton. He played 19 games for Charlton but did not score any goals. He left the club when his contract ended.

On 30 November 2020, Tomer signed a one-year contract with Wellington Phoenix, a club in Australia's A-League. He scored his first goal for them on 15 March 2021. On 17 May 2021, Tomer gained media attention when he wore an Israeli flag and a Jewish kippah after a game. He said he was praying for peace and showing support for his country. He left Wellington Phoenix on 10 July 2021.

The next day, on 11 July 2021, Tomer signed a one-year deal with another Australian club, Western Sydney Wanderers. He played for them until 2022. From 2022 to 2024, he played for Hapoel Be'er Sheva in Israel. In 2024, he returned to his first club, Maccabi Haifa.

International Football Career

Tomer Hemed played for Israel's national youth teams, including the under-17, under-18, under-19, and under-21 squads.

In January 2011, he was called up to the senior Israel national team. He made his official international debut on 4 June 2011, helping his team win 2–1 against Latvia.

Tomer scored his first international goal on 6 September 2011 against Croatia. He also scored three goals (a hat-trick) in a 6–0 win against Luxembourg on 12 October 2012. He continued to play for the national team until 2019, scoring a total of 17 goals in 38 appearances.
