Thomas Paul Fleetwood (born 19 January 1991), known as Tommy Fleetwood, is a professional golfer from England. He plays on two major golf tours: the PGA Tour and the European Tour. He has won seven times on the European Tour. In 2024, he won a silver medal for Great Britain at the Olympic Games in Paris, France.

Early Life and Amateur Golf

Tommy Fleetwood was born on January 19, 1991, in Southport, Merseyside, England. He was a very good amateur golfer. He won the 2009 Scottish Amateur Stroke Play Championship. He also won the 2010 English Amateur golf tournament.

He finished second in several big amateur events. These included the 2008 Amateur Championship and the 2010 European Amateur. Fleetwood also played for Great Britain and Ireland in the Walker Cup in 2009. He was ranked as high as number 3 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

In July 2010, Fleetwood came in second place at the English Challenge. This was a tournament on the Challenge Tour, which is Europe's second-level golf tour. He became a professional golfer shortly after winning the English Amateur in August 2010.

Becoming a Professional Golfer

Fleetwood started his professional career at the 2010 Czech Open. This was a European Tour event. In September 2011, he won his first Challenge Tour event, the Kazakhstan Open. This win helped him earn a spot on the European Tour for the 2012 season.

First European Tour Win

In August 2013, Tommy Fleetwood won his first big title on the European Tour. He won the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles. He won in a sudden-death playoff against two other golfers. He made a birdie on the first extra hole to win.

In the 2018 Ryder Cup, Fleetwood teamed up with Francesco Molinari. They became the first pair ever to win all four of their matches together. Europe won the Ryder Cup that year.

In July 2019, Fleetwood finished second at The Open Championship in Northern Ireland. In November 2019, he won the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa. He won in a playoff after making three eagles in the final round.

In November 2022, Fleetwood won the Nedbank Golf Challenge again. This was his first victory since 2019.

In June 2023, he tied for the lead at the RBC Canadian Open. He lost in a playoff on the fourth extra hole. One week later, at the 2023 U.S. Open, he made history again. He became the first golfer to shoot a 63 in the U.S. Open more than once.

In September 2023, Fleetwood played in the 2023 Ryder Cup in Italy. He teamed up with Rory McIlroy, and they won both their matches together. He also won his singles match on Sunday. This helped the European team win back the Ryder Cup.

In January 2024, Fleetwood won the first-ever Dubai Invitational. He finished with two birdies to win by one shot. In April 2024, he had his best finish ever at the Masters. He tied for third place.

Fleetwood is a big fan of the Everton F.C. football team. In March 2025, he received an honorary fellowship from Liverpool John Moores University. This is a special award from the university.
