Mohammad Ajman Miah (Bengali: মোহাম্মদ আজমান মিয়া), known as Tommy Miah, is a famous British chef. He was born in Bangladesh on March 28, 1959. Tommy Miah owns the Raj Restaurant. He also started the International Indian Chef of the Year Competition. Many people in Britain call him the "Curry King." He has received an award called the MBE.

Tommy Miah's Early Life

Tommy Miah was born in a village in what was then East Pakistan. This area is now Bangladesh. When he was 10 years old, he moved to Birmingham, England. He loved food and cooking from a young age. Because of this interest, he started working in the food industry. At just 17, he opened his own small takeout restaurant.

Tommy Miah's Career and Achievements

Tommy Miah became well-known in Edinburgh, Scotland. There, he opened his restaurant, the Raj Restaurant.

Promoting Indian Cooking

In 1991, Tommy Miah created the International Indian Chef of the Year Competition. This competition helps make Indian cooking better and more creative. Thousands of chefs from all over the world join this event.

He was also chosen to lead the first food festival for the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation in Delhi. The Bangladesh Foreign Office also picked him to represent Bangladesh. He cooked traditional Bangladeshi dishes for this special event.

Tommy Miah has done many impressive things. He once delivered a curry lunch-box to 10 Downing Street. This was for Prime Minister John Major's 50th birthday. He also made the world's largest curry. It was big enough to feed 10,000 people! He has written cookbooks and created new dishes for food companies. He was also the first person to make Indian meals available on flights around the world.

Charity Work

Tommy Miah supports many charity groups. These groups are in both Bangladesh and Britain. Some of them include Cancer Research UK and the ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital. He also teaches food hygiene classes in refugee camps in Bangladesh. He helps foreign students study in the UK by sponsoring them.
