Tonganoxie (pronounced tong-guh-NOX-ee) is a city in Leavenworth County, Kansas, United States. It is part of the larger Kansas City metropolitan area. In 2020, about 5,573 people lived in Tonganoxie.

History of Tonganoxie
Tonganoxie was first planned out in 1866. This process is called "platting," which means creating a map of a town's streets and land lots.
The city got its name from a local Native American Chief. He was from the Delaware Tribe. His name meant "shorty" in the Delaware language. Tonganoxie officially became a city in 1871.
Geography and Climate
Tonganoxie is located in Kansas. The United States Census Bureau says the city covers about 3.67 square miles (9.51 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a very small part being water.
