About Toppers Pizza
Toppers Pizza has many stores across the United States. Some of these stores are owned by the company itself, while others are franchises. A franchise means someone else pays to open and run a store using the Toppers Pizza name and recipes.
Where Toppers Pizza Stores Are
You can find more than 70 Toppers Pizza locations in many states. These include Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio, Nebraska, Michigan, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, South Dakota, South Carolina, and Kansas.
Toppers Pizza often aims to serve college students and young adults. Because of this, many of their stores stay open very late, sometimes until 3:00 a.m. or even later. This helps them serve customers who want late-night food. In 2017, some Toppers Pizza locations in Illinois closed as part of a company change.
How Toppers Pizza Started
The founder of Toppers Pizza, Scott Gittrich, began his journey in the pizza business in 1984. He was a college student at the University of Illinois and took a job delivering pizzas for Domino's Pizza. He worked his way up in the company. By 1991, he was in charge of operations for 22 Domino's stores in Charlotte, North Carolina. That year, he decided to leave and start his own pizza company, which became Toppers Pizza.
Why the Name "Toppers"?
The company's name, "Toppers," was chosen to show what they are known for. They wanted to have many different and interesting pizza toppings. The name "Toppers" is a special registered trademark of the company. This means it's legally protected and belongs to them.
