Career highlights and awards

Tory Woodbury (born July 12, 1978) is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the special teams coordinator for the Norfolk State Spartans. Woodbury played professionally as a quarterback for the New York Jets in the National Football League (NFL).

He played college football for the Winston-Salem State Rams. In 2001, the Jets signed him as an undrafted free agent. As a coach, he helped the Los Angeles Rams win Super Bowl LVI in 2021.

College Football Journey

Tory Woodbury had an amazing college career at Winston-Salem State University. He was a star player for the Rams. He set a school record for passing yards. He threw for 4,536 yards during his time there.

Woodbury also scored 40 touchdowns by passing the ball. But he wasn't just a passer! He was also a great runner. He rushed for 1,020 yards and scored 20 rushing touchdowns. His total of 60 combined touchdowns (passing and rushing) tied a Rams record.

Professional Playing Career

After college, Tory Woodbury hoped to play in the NFL. He was not chosen in the main draft. However, the New York Jets signed him in 2001 as an undrafted free agent. This means they signed him even though he wasn't picked in the draft.

Some football experts, like Mel Kiper Jr., thought he was a hidden talent. Woodbury played as both a quarterback and a wide receiver for the Jets. Later, he was released from the team. He also played for the Buffalo Bills in 2006 before ending his playing career.

Coaching and Scouting Career

After his playing days, Tory Woodbury moved into coaching and scouting. He has worked with several college and professional teams.

Early Coaching Roles

In 2015, Woodbury became the offensive coordinator for the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls. This was a big step in his coaching journey. He helped lead their offense for three years.

Time with the Los Angeles Rams

Woodbury joined the Los Angeles Rams in 2017. He started as a college scout, looking for new talent. After three years as a scout, he became an assistant coach in 2020. He worked as an assistant special teams coach. In 2021, he was part of the Rams team that won Super Bowl LVI. This was a huge achievement!

Recent Coaching Positions

In 2023, Woodbury was hired by the Houston Roughnecks. He worked as their special teams coordinator. In March 2024, he took on the same role for the Howard Bison.

In January 2025, Tory Woodbury joined the coaching staff at Norfolk State. He is now the special teams coordinator there, working with head coach Michael Vick.
