The Building's Design: Architecture of Touchstones

The Touchstones building is made from Yorkshire stone. It has a slate roof, which is a type of stone roof. The library part of the building has one floor. Its front has three gables, which are the triangular parts of a wall under a sloping roof. These gables have decorative ball shapes called finials on top.

The center of the library has a porch with an arcade. This means it has a row of arches. It also has an oval-shaped doorway. The windows have mullions (vertical bars) and transoms (horizontal bars). They also have oval tops and decorative hood moulds above them.

The museum and art gallery sections have two floors. They have a central part with four sections, called bays. To the right, there's a three-bay gabled section. To the left, there's another gabled section set at an angle. You can see panels with carved figures on the gables.
