Trefl facts for kids
Trefl S.A. is a big company from Sopot, Poland. It's a family-owned business, which means it's run by a family. Trefl makes and sells fun things like jigsaw puzzles, board games, and toys. It's the largest puzzle company in Poland and one of the biggest in Europe!
Trefl is more than just puzzles and games. The company also has different parts that do other cool things:
- Studio Trefl makes animated television series – like cartoons!
- Wydawnictwo Trefl publishes children's books.
- Baltic Media Group creates commercials and advertisement videos.
Trefl also loves sports! They have their own professional sports teams: Trefl Sopot for men's basketball and Trefl Gdańsk for men's volleyball.
You might have seen Trefl products with your favorite characters on them. That's because Trefl works with popular brands like Disney, Hasbro, and Mattel to use their characters on their puzzles and games. This is called licensing.
How Trefl Started
Trefl was started in 1985 by a person named Kazimierz Wierzbicki. He began by making jigsaw puzzles. Just a few years later, in 1989, the company got permission to sell its products to other countries. This is called getting an export permit.
A big moment for Trefl happened in 1991 when they became a main partner with Disney. This meant they could put Disney characters on many of their products. In 2004, Trefl started making cool 3D puzzles.
In 1998, Trefl became the main owner of a company in Kraków that makes game cards. Today, that company is known as Trefl Playing Card Company.
Trefl and Sports
Kazimierz Wierzbicki, the person who started Trefl, is a huge sports fan! He used to be an instructor for basketball, skiing, and volleyball. Because of his love for sports, his company has always supported local sports teams.
In 1995, he even started one of Poland's best and most successful professional men's basketball teams, Trefl Sopot. This shows how much Trefl cares about helping sports grow in their community.
