Trevor Mitchell Bayne (born February 19, 1991) is an American race car driver and businessman. He is known for being the youngest person to ever win the Daytona 500, which is a huge event in NASCAR. He won it in 2011, just one day after his 20th birthday! This amazing win happened in only his second race in NASCAR's top series.
After his full-time racing career ended in 2018, Trevor started his own coffee shop business called Mahalo Coffee Roasters in Knoxville, Tennessee. He also began racing part-time in dirt track races with his younger brother, Trey Bayne. In late 2022, he sold his coffee business. As of 2025, Trevor is a pit reporter for NASCAR on Prime Video, sharing updates from the racing pits.

Racing Career
How It Started
Trevor Bayne was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, in February 1991. He began racing go-karts when he was only five years old. For eight years, he raced go-karts and won three World Championships. He also earned more than 300 feature wins and 18 State and Track Championships.
In 2003, Trevor moved up to the Allison Legacy Series. He was the youngest top rookie in the series. The very next year, he became the series' National Champion, again being the youngest person to win that title. In just two years, he won 14 races and earned 19 pole positions (meaning he started in the very front). He also finished in the top five 30 times out of 41 races.
In 2005, when Trevor was 15, he started racing in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series Southern Division. Here, he was named the top rookie. In 2008, he joined Dale Earnhardt, Inc.'s program for young drivers. He raced in the NASCAR Camping World East Series, where he won one race and finished fourth in the overall points.
In 2009, he earned "Sunoco Rookie of the Race" honors at the Toyota All-Star Showdown. That same year, he began racing in the Nationwide Series (now called the Xfinity Series) for Michael Waltrip Racing. After about two years, he moved to Roush Fenway Racing and started racing in the Sprint Cup Series for Wood Brothers Racing.
Racing in the Xfinity Series
First Steps in Xfinity (2009–2010)
After his first team, DEI, joined with another team, Trevor became a development driver for Chip Ganassi Racing. He made his first Xfinity Series start in 2009 at Bristol Motor Speedway. He finished 23rd in that race.
Later, he signed with Michael Waltrip Racing for a few races. In his first race with them, he started second but finished 28th. He then earned a pole position at the Kroger 200 and finished seventh in that race and another one at Richmond.
In 2010, Trevor drove for Diamond-Waltrip Racing in 28 races. During this time, he earned three pole positions and finished in the top five five times. He also had nine top-ten finishes. After he announced he was leaving the team, he was replaced by other drivers.
Success with Roush Fenway Racing (2010–2014)
In October 2010, Trevor signed a multi-year contract with Roush Fenway Racing. He drove the No. 17 Ford for the rest of 2010. By the end of that year, he had three pole positions, six top-five finishes, and eleven top-ten finishes. He ended the season in seventh place overall.
For the 2011 season, Roush moved him to the No. 16 Xfinity Series car. However, he had to take a break from racing for a while due to an illness. After he recovered, Trevor returned to racing in June 2011, finishing third. He won his first Xfinity Series race at the Texas Motor Speedway on November 5, 2011. Even though he only raced in 29 out of 34 races, he finished eleventh in points. He also had five top-five finishes and fourteen top-ten finishes, along with his win.
In 2012, Trevor was supposed to drive the No. 60 Ford, but a lack of sponsors meant the team could only race in the first five events. He returned for one more race later that season.
In 2013, Trevor took over the No. 6 Xfinity Series car. On June 9, he won his second Xfinity Series race at Iowa Speedway. He returned to the No. 6 car for the 2014 season with a new sponsor, Advocare.
Trevor came very close to winning several races in the spring of 2014. He nearly won at Dover but was just beaten by Kyle Busch. He finished second again at Chicago. He also won $200,000 in a special "Dash-4-Cash" program at the Iowa race, sharing it with a fan.
Return to Xfinity (2022–2023)
On February 9, 2022, Joe Gibbs Racing announced that Trevor would drive their No. 18 car in seven races. He raced at Fontana, Phoenix, Charlotte, Nashville, Loudon, Las Vegas, and Homestead. Trevor finished third in his first race at Fontana and fourth at Phoenix. He finished ninth at Charlotte and second at both Nashville and Loudon. He finished fifth at Las Vegas and sixth at Homestead, which was his last race of that season.
On August 23, 2023, Trevor announced he would return to Joe Gibbs Racing for three more races. He drove the No. 19 Toyota Supra at Daytona, Bristol, and Texas. He finished seventh at Bristol after a strong race.
NASCAR Cup Series
Early Years with Wood Brothers Racing (2010–2014)

Trevor joined the Sprint Cup Series in 2010, racing for the Wood Brothers Racing team. His first race was the Texas 500, where he started 28th and finished 17th.
In 2011, he raced a limited schedule for Wood Brothers. He won the very first race of the season, the Daytona 500. This made him the youngest winner in Daytona 500 history, at 20 years and one day old! It was also the Wood Brothers' first win since 2001.
After this huge win, Trevor faced some challenges. He was hospitalized for a spider bite and later for an illness. It was announced that Trevor had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Despite this, he returned to racing. For 2012, 2013, and 2014, Trevor continued to race the No. 21 car for a limited number of races each season.
Full-Time with Roush Fenway Racing (2015–2018)
On May 24, 2014, Roush Fenway Racing announced that Trevor would race the No. 6 car full-time in the Sprint Cup Series for the 2015 season.
In the 2015 Daytona 500, Trevor was involved in a crash but still finished the race. He had a good run at the GEICO 500, running third, but then lost control and caused a big crash. He later said that "dirty air" from other cars made him lose control. At Dover, he was fined $20,000 for getting out of his car too soon after an accident, which was against a new rule.
Trevor earned his first top-ten finish of 2015 at Michigan, finishing ninth. He also got his first ARCA win at Pocono, leading most of the race. He had another Cup Series top-ten finish at the 2015 Coke Zero 400.
In 2016, Trevor finished 28th in the Daytona 500. He had a strong fifth-place finish at Bristol and a tenth-place finish at Talladega. He also finished third at Daytona, which was his third career top-five finish.
In February 2017, Trevor had his first top-ten finish of the season at the 2017 Daytona 500, finishing tenth. At the 2017 Brickyard 400, he had a great race and was close to winning. However, he was caught in a crash with other drivers. He later said he had never been more upset after a loss in his racing career.
Later in 2017, he earned two more top-five finishes at Michigan and Bristol. At Talladega, he finished third even though his car was damaged in crashes. He also got another top-ten finish at Martinsville, crossing the finish line sideways in sixth place after a multi-car crash. Trevor finished 22nd in points for the second year in a row, setting new personal records for top-five and top-ten finishes in a year.
On April 14, 2018, it was reported that another driver, Matt Kenseth, would return to the No. 6 car for some races. This meant Trevor would only race part-time for the rest of the season. On September 12, 2018, it was announced that Trevor would not return to the No. 6 car in 2019, making him a free agent.
Free Agent (2019)
After leaving Roush Fenway Racing in 2018, Trevor and his family moved back to Tennessee. He built a farm in the countryside. In June 2019, his family opened Mahalo Coffee Roasters in Knoxville. Trevor later shared that he had offers to drive again, but he didn't have the necessary sponsorship money.
Craftsman Truck Series
On August 31, 2020, Niece Motorsports announced that Trevor would make his Truck Series debut at Darlington. He finished fifth at Bristol but was disqualified because his truck was too low after the race. At Talladega, he finished second, just missing the win. He then raced the No. 45 truck for the rest of the 2020 season.
Personal Life
Trevor Bayne is an open Christian. He has said that his faith helped him deal with both the sudden success of winning the Daytona 500 and his health challenges in 2011. He has been on several mission trips to Mexico.
In November 2013, Trevor announced that he had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
In December 2012, Trevor announced he was engaged to Ashton Clapp. They got married on June 4, 2013. They have five children: Elizabeth Kate (born December 2015), Levi Jensen (born June 2017), Luka (born September 2019), Jude (born December 2021), and Jett (born September 2023).
In 2019, Trevor and Ashton opened Mahalo Coffee Roasters, a coffee shop in Knoxville, Tennessee. He sold the business at the end of 2022.
Trevor is also the older brother and team owner for American Crate All-Star Series presented by PPM driver Trey Bayne. They share a race car.
