Trevor van Riemsdyk (born July 24, 1991) is an American professional ice hockey player. He plays as a defenseman for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League (NHL). He is sometimes called TVR by fans. Trevor won the famous Stanley Cup in 2015 with the Chicago Blackhawks. This was during his very first season in the NHL! He has also played for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Trevor's Hockey Journey
Early Years and College Hockey
Trevor van Riemsdyk started playing hockey in high school. He attended Christian Brothers Academy in New Jersey. Later, he joined the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs. This team played in a league called the Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL).
After that, Trevor played college hockey for the University of New Hampshire. He was part of their team, the Wildcats. He played in the NCAA Division I Hockey East conference. In his second year, Trevor played so well that he was chosen for the All-Hockey East First Team. This is a big honor for college players.
Becoming a Professional Player
On March 24, 2014, Trevor signed a contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. This was his first step into professional hockey. He made his NHL debut on October 9, 2014. His first NHL point came on November 9, 2014, when he got an assist on a goal.
During his first season, Trevor faced some challenges. He had a knee injury and later a wrist injury. But he worked hard to recover. He even played a few games for the Rockford IceHogs, which is the Blackhawks' minor league team.
Trevor was called back up to the Blackhawks for the playoffs. He made his playoff debut on June 8, 2015. In that same year, he helped the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup! They beat the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games. It was an amazing achievement for a rookie player.
Playing for Different Teams
After winning the Stanley Cup, Trevor continued to play well. On October 10, 2015, he scored his very first NHL goal against the New York Islanders. He also scored his first playoff goal in 2016 against the St. Louis Blues.
In 2017, Trevor was chosen by the Vegas Golden Knights in a special draft for new teams. However, he was quickly traded to the Carolina Hurricanes. He played three seasons with the Hurricanes.
In October 2020, Trevor signed a contract with his current team, the Washington Capitals. He has been an important part of their defense ever since. In March 2023, he signed a new contract to stay with the Capitals for three more years.

Trevor's Family and Interests
Trevor comes from a hockey family! His older brother, James van Riemsdyk, also plays in the NHL for the Detroit Red Wings. They have another brother, Brendan, who also played college hockey. Their parents are Frans and Allison van Riemsdyk.
Trevor is also an ambassador for an organization called You Can Play. This group works to make sports welcoming for everyone. They want to stop unfair treatment in sports. Trevor supports this cause and believes in making hockey a sport for all.
