Trevor van Riemsdyk (born July 24, 1991), also known as TVR, is an American professional ice hockey player. He plays as a defenseman for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League (NHL). Trevor won the famous Stanley Cup in 2015, which was his very first season playing in the NHL! He played for the Chicago Blackhawks then, and has also been a part of the Carolina Hurricanes team.

Trevor's Hockey Journey
Early Hockey Days
Trevor van Riemsdyk started playing hockey in high school. He played for Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft, New Jersey. Before his final year, he decided to play for the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs. This team was part of the Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL).
After that, Trevor played college hockey for the University of New Hampshire. This was in the NCAA Division I Hockey East conference. In his second year, Trevor played so well that he was chosen for the 2012–13 All-Hockey East First Team. This is a big honor for college players!
Becoming a Pro Player
On March 24, 2014, Trevor signed his first professional contract. He joined the Chicago Blackhawks for two years. He played his first NHL game on October 9, 2014, against the Dallas Stars.
Trevor earned his first NHL point on November 9. He helped his teammate Kris Versteeg score a goal against the San Jose Sharks. Later, in February 2015, Trevor had to move to the Blackhawks' minor league team, the Rockford IceHogs. This was after he recovered from a leg injury. Soon after, he hurt his wrist and needed surgery. He worked hard to get better and returned to the Blackhawks in May.
Trevor made his first playoff appearance on June 8, 2015. He played in Game 3 of the 2015 Stanley Cup Finals. In his very first NHL season, Trevor won the Stanley Cup! His team, the Blackhawks, beat the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.
Continuing His NHL Career
After winning the Stanley Cup, Trevor signed a new two-year contract with the Blackhawks. In the 2015–16 season, he scored his first NHL goal. This happened on October 10 against Jean-François Bérubé of the New York Islanders.
On April 23, 2016, Trevor scored his first goal in the NHL playoffs. This was in Game 6 of the 2016 playoffs against the St. Louis Blues.
In 2017, Trevor was chosen by the Vegas Golden Knights in a special draft. But the very next day, he was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes. He played three seasons with the Hurricanes.

On October 11, 2020, Trevor signed a one-year contract with the Washington Capitals. In his first season with the Capitals, he played 20 games. On March 21, 2021, he signed another two-year contract with the team.
In the 2022–23 NHL season, Trevor was playing some of his best hockey. He was scoring more points than ever before! Because of his great play, he signed a new three-year contract with the Capitals on March 11, 2023.
Trevor's Family Life
Trevor has two brothers who also play hockey. His older brother, James van Riemsdyk, also plays in the NHL for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Their third brother, Brendan, played college hockey too. Their parents are Frans and Allison van Riemsdyk. Their dad, Frans, was born in the Netherlands but grew up in New Jersey.
