Trocadero, often called Troca, is a popular Swedish soda. It has a yummy taste of apple and orange. This fizzy drink also contains caffeine.
Trocadero was first made in Sweden in the summer of 1953. A company called Saturnus AB in Malmö launched it. This drink has been super popular in Norrland, which is the northern part of Sweden. Because of this, some people even call it the "national drink of Norrland"!

What's in a Name?
Nils-Håkan Håkansson from Saturnus AB introduced Trocadero. His grandson, Edward Liepe, shared a cool fact about the name. He thinks "Trocadero" might come from a famous place in Paris, France. This could be either the Place du Trocadéro or a cafe called Café du Trocadéro.
In French, you say the name with a strong sound at the end, like "Troca-DER-o." But in Sweden, most people say it with the strong sound on the "e," like "Tro-ca-DE-ro." Interestingly, the French name actually comes from an island in Spain called Isla del Trocadero. In Spanish, it's pronounced just like Swedes say it!
A Look at Its History
Trocadero came out in 1953. That same year, something big happened in Sweden: the ban on cola drinks was lifted! This meant that drinks like Coca-Cola and Cuba Cola (which Saturnus also made) could now be sold.
For a long time, Trocadero was special. It was one of the only sodas, besides cola, that had caffeine in it.
Over time, Saturnus AB changed its focus. They started selling special liquids for liquor and drink mixes. They also began selling soda mixes to other breweries. This meant they stopped making Trocadero themselves.
In 2006, Saturnus sold the Trocadero brand to NordArom AB. This company allowed other breweries to make Trocadero under a special agreement. Then, in 2017, Spendrups Bryggeri AB bought the brand. For a short time, other breweries like Hammars Bryggeri still made it. But by late 2017, Spendrups became the only company allowed to make Trocadero.
More About Trocadero
Did you know Trocadero can also be a candy? You can find it as bulk confectionery. These candies are green and yellow jelly sweets. They taste just like the drink! Fagerströms Karamellfabrik in Hudiksvall started making Trocadero hard candies in 2005. However, according to Trocadero's Facebook page, these candies are no longer made.
