Troy Hill (born August 29, 1991) is an American former professional football cornerback. He played in the National Football League (NFL) for 10 seasons. Hill played for several teams, including the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played college football for the Oregon Ducks. As of 2025, he is the head coach for St. Bonaventure High School.

Early Life and High School Football

Troy Hill grew up in Ventura, California. He went to St. Bonaventure High School. There, he played as a defensive back and wide receiver. In his senior year, his team had a great record of 11 wins and 2 losses. However, these wins were later removed because Hill was found to be ineligible to play.

Despite this, Hill received many honors in high school. He was recognized for his strong defensive play. Experts like Scout.com and Rivals.com rated him as a three-star recruit. They also considered him one of the top cornerbacks in the country.

College Football Career

Hill played college football for the Oregon Ducks. As a junior, he was one of the top tacklers among the team's defensive backs. He made 29 tackles and deflected four passes that year.

In his senior year at Oregon, Hill continued to play well. He finished with 71 tackles. He was also chosen for the second-team All-Pac-12 Conference. This meant he was one of the best players in his college league. Hill was known for defending passes, ranking second in his league for this skill. During his time in college, Hill faced a temporary suspension from his team. He was later allowed to rejoin the team.

Professional Football Journey

Troy Hill began his professional football career in 2015. He signed with the Cincinnati Bengals. He later played for several other NFL teams.

Cincinnati Bengals

In May 2015, the Cincinnati Bengals signed Hill to a three-year contract. He worked hard during training camp to earn a spot on the team. In December 2015, he was moved from the practice squad to the Bengals' main roster. He played his first professional game on December 6, 2015. In that game, he made three tackles. The Bengals later released Hill in late December 2015.

New England Patriots

After leaving the Bengals, the New England Patriots picked up Hill in December 2015. He played in three games for the Patriots. During this short time, he recorded six tackles. The Patriots then released him a few days later.

Los Angeles Rams

On December 31, 2015, the St. Louis Rams claimed Troy Hill. The team later moved to Los Angeles. Hill competed for a spot as a backup cornerback. He earned his first start in September 2016. In that game, he made a season-high 11 tackles.

In November 2016, the Rams released Hill due to a legal issue. However, they signed him back to their practice squad. He was later promoted back to the active roster in December 2016. He finished the 2016 NFL season with 40 tackles.

In 2017, Hill was suspended for the first two games of the season. This was due to a violation of the NFL's policy. He returned to play as a backup cornerback. He also started the final three games of the season due to an injured teammate.

In 2019, the Rams re-signed Hill to a two-year deal. He changed his jersey number a couple of times during this period. In Week 11 of 2019, he had a great game against the Chicago Bears. He made six tackles, sacked the quarterback, and intercepted a pass.

In 2020, Hill continued to make big plays. In Week 2, he made an interception that helped the Rams win. In Week 12, he recovered a fumble and ran it back for a 20-yard touchdown. He also had two more interceptions that season, both of which he returned for touchdowns. This made him a leader in defensive touchdowns for the NFL in 2020.

Cleveland Browns

On March 22, 2021, Hill signed a four-year contract with the Cleveland Browns. He played one season for the Browns.

Los Angeles Rams (Second Time)

In April 2022, the Browns traded Hill back to the Los Angeles Rams. He was placed on injured reserve in September 2022 due to a groin injury. He returned to play later that season. Hill started 12 games for the Rams and recorded 67 tackles. He also had one interception.
