Where is Truuli Peak?

This impressive peak is found inside the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. It sits between two large ice rivers called glaciers: the Chernof Glacier and the Truuli Glacier. These glaciers are part of the huge Harding Icefield, which is a massive area of ice and snow.

The First Climb

The very first time people climbed to the top of Truuli Peak was in 1968. This climb was led by a person named Vinn Hoeman. Their climb was part of a bigger adventure. It was the first time anyone had ever crossed the entire Harding Icefield on record. This amazing journey started from Kachemak Bay and ended at the Exit Glacier.

What's in a Name?

The name "Truuli" was given to the peak by Vinn Hoeman. It comes from an old Native American name for the Kenai Mountains. This shows how important the local culture and history are to the names of places in Alaska.
