Tschappina is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the beautiful Viamala Region of Switzerland. It's part of the canton of Graubünden, a region known for its stunning mountains.

History of Tschappina

Tschappina has a long history! We first find its name mentioned in old records way back in 1396. Back then, it was called in Schipinen.

Geography and Nature

Tschappina covers an area of about 24.7 square kilometers (that's about 9.5 square miles). A big part of this land, about 42%, is used for farming. Another 27% is covered by forests, full of trees and wildlife.

Only a small part, about 1%, has buildings or roads. The rest, about 30%, is made up of natural features like rivers, glaciers, or mountains. This means Tschappina has lots of wild and untouched nature!

Tschappina is nestled high up in the Heinzenberg mountains. The different parts of the town are spread out at various heights, from about 1,384 meters (4,541 feet) to 1,846 meters (6,056 feet) above sea level.

The municipality includes several small villages and settlements. These are places like Unter- and Ober-Tschappina, Ober Gmeind, Usser Glas, and Inner Glas.
