Urmein (in Romansh, it's called Urmagn) is a small town in Switzerland. It's part of the Viamala Region in the Graubünden canton.

A Look at Urmein's Past
Urmein was first mentioned way back in 1156. Back then, it was known as Hof de Ormen. This means it was a settlement or farm area.
Where is Urmein Located?
Urmein covers an area of about 4.4 square kilometers (which is about 1.7 square miles). A big part of this land, almost half, is used for farming. Another large part, nearly 40%, is covered by forests.
A small portion of the land has buildings and roads. The rest is made up of rivers, glaciers, or mountains.
Urmein is nestled in the Heinzenberg mountains. It sits at an elevation of about 1,264 meters (4,147 feet) above sea level. The village itself is a haufendorf, which means it grew in an unplanned way with buildings close together around a central area.
Before 2017, Urmein was in a different district. Now, it's part of the Viamala Region.

Urmein is a small community. As of the latest count, it has a population of 150 people. A small percentage of the people living here are from other countries.
