Masein (which is called Masagn in Romansh) is a small town in Switzerland. It is located in the Viamala Region within the canton of Graubünden.
History of Masein
Masein is quite an old place! We first find it mentioned in history books way back in 1156. Back then, its name was written as de Medezenu.
Geography of Masein
Masein covers an area of about 4.2 square kilometers (which is about 1.6 square miles). A big part of this land, about 38%, is used for farming. Over half of the area, 52%, is covered by forests.
About 6% of Masein's land has buildings or roads on it. The rest, about 3.6%, is made up of things like rivers or mountains.
Masein is located on the lower part of a mountain area called Heinzenberg. It has two main parts: Ober-Masein and Unter-Masein. There are also smaller villages, known as hamlets, called Dalaus, Cresta, and Lochmüli.
People of Masein
