Tsilla Chelton (born June 21, 1919 – died July 15, 2012) was a talented French actress. She was famous for her work in both theatre and movies. Many people remember her for playing the main role in the 1990 film Tatie Danielle. For this role, she was even nominated for a Cesar award, which is a big award in French cinema. She also played an older Dominican nun in the movie Sister Smile.

Tsilla Schilton was born in Jerusalem. However, she spent her childhood years in Belgium. Her parents were French and had Jewish heritage. Sadly, she lost her mother when she was only six years old. After that, she moved to Antwerp with her father. During World War II, she moved to Switzerland for safety. Later, she settled down in Paris, France. She married a decorator named Jacques Noël and they had four children together.
Tsilla was very interested in theatre. She began her acting journey with Marcel Marceau's acting group. Marcel Marceau was a very famous mime artist.
Most of Tsilla's career was spent in the theatre. She acted in eleven plays by a famous writer named Eugène Ionesco. She even won a Molière Award for best comedian for her role in Ionesco's play The Chairs. She also helped introduce plays by Bertolt Brecht to France. She worked with other well-known actors like Michel Serrault and Michel Piccoli.
When she was 71, Tsilla became very famous in movies. This was for her role in the 1990 film Tatie Danielle, directed by Étienne Chatiliez. In the movie, she played an old lady who was quite grumpy and difficult. Besides acting, Tsilla also taught comedy starting in 1964. She was a teacher to many actors who later became famous, including Gérard Jugnot and Michel Blanc.
Her Final Years
Tsilla Chelton passed away at the age of 93 in Brussels, Belgium. Her ashes were buried in the famous Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, France.
