Turrillas is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Almería province of Andalusia, Spain. It sits high up on the slopes of the Sierra Alhamilla mountains.
You can reach Turrillas by a winding road from Lucainena de las Torres. Another way is from a road off the main N-340a highway, which connects Sorbas to Tabernas.
From Turrillas, you can see amazing views of other mountain ranges and the Sorbas basin. You can also see lots of farmland.

Farming in Turrillas
The land around Turrillas is mostly used for growing olives and some almonds. If you are interested in how people used to farm, you can see signs of old terrace agriculture on the hillsides near the town.
There is also evidence of an ancient qanat irrigation system. This system helped bring water to the crops on the land directly below the town.
Wind Power for the Future
Since 2008, many windmills have been built on the mountains behind Turrillas. These windmills help create electricity for the country's power grid.
Work started in early 2008 to make the roads wider. This was needed to transport the huge blades and towers for the windmills. Temporary antennas were put up to test how much electricity the windmills could produce. The tests were successful, and construction was expected to finish by the end of 2008.
Town Celebrations
Turrillas has an annual festival, or fiesta, to honor San Antonio. It takes place every year on June 13, 14, and 15.
The celebrations go on late into the night. There's a concert in the town square, live music, and places to get food and drinks. There is also a parade where people ride horses past La ermita de San Antonio. This small church is in the lower part of town. It was built in the 17th century to remember battles between the Moors and Christians in the area.
Air Traffic Control
AENA (Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea) has a special relay station on the Sierra mountain range behind Turrillas. This station helps with air traffic control for Almería Airport. It also helps guide flights heading towards Africa. The Communications Centre in Turrillas started working in 2003.
Population Changes
The number of people living in Turrillas has changed over the years.
