Early Life and Start in Music
Tyler Collins was born in Harlem, New York. She grew up in Detroit, Michigan. As a child, Tyler loved to perform. She took dance and theater lessons. She also performed with a children's theater group. This group was called Willow Opera Workshop in Los Angeles, California.
Her professional music career started when she sang lead. She was part of an R&B group called The Boys Next Door. Later, Tyler signed with RCA Records. She then released her first album. It was titled Girls Nite Out.

Tyler helped write the first song from her album. It was called "Whatcha Gonna Do". This song reached number 8 on the Billboard R&B chart. The music video for "Whatcha Gonna Do" was directed by Michael Bay.
