Tyro is a small community in Davidson County, North Carolina, United States. It is not a city but a "census-designated place" (CDP), which means it's an area the government counts as a community for statistics. Tyro is about 7 miles west of Lexington and 24 miles south of Winston-Salem. In 2020, about 8,926 people lived there.
Where is Tyro?
Tyro is located in the western part of Davidson County. You can find it along North Carolina Highway 150. Other communities nearby include Reeds to the northeast and Churchland to the southwest, both also on Highway 150. Linwood is to the southeast, and the city of Lexington is to the east.
Just 6 miles west of Tyro, you can visit Boone's Cave Park by the Yadkin River. There's a story that the famous explorer Daniel Boone once hid in the cave there. The Tyro area covers about 33.3 square kilometers, and it's all land.
