Ullared is a small village in Sweden. It's located in Falkenberg Municipality, which is part of Halland County. In 2010, about 791 people lived here.
Ullared is famous for its huge store called Gekås. This store is the biggest in both Sweden and all of Scandinavia! Because of Gekås, Ullared is often linked with "low prices" for many Swedes. Since the early 1990s, many other shops, usually with good deals, have opened in the village.

History of Ullared
Old Railways and New Paths
Long ago, in the late 1800s and early 1900s, two train lines passed through Ullared. These were the Falkenberg railway (also called Pyttebanan) and the WbÄJ line. Having a train station gave Ullared an advantage over other nearby villages. However, these railways closed around 1960.
After the trains stopped running, Ullared grew a lot. More houses were built, new shops opened, and services for the community increased.
Pyttebanan: A Path for Fun
Today, parts of the old Pyttebanan railway have been turned into a walking and biking path. Signs along the path tell you about the railway's history. The path starts in Ullared and goes towards Fridhemsberg. You can still see the old "Fridhemsberg" station sign on a building there. This well-kept path crosses small rivers and roads, and it's popular all year round.
How Ullared Became a Municipality
In the 1950s, Ullared joined with two other areas, Källsjö and Fagered. This happened during a time when smaller local areas merged to form bigger ones. Then, in 1971, Ullared became part of the larger Falkenberg Municipality.
In 2005, the local council made a plan for the village's future. They decided that an area called Ängaberg, behind the school, would be good for building homes. Areas to the east of the village were set aside for more shops.
There are also plans for a new road between county road 154 and Gekås. This will help reduce traffic in the village center. There are even long-term ideas to change the main route of county road 154.
Village Facilities
Apelskolan is a school in Ullared with about 500 students, from ages 6 to 15. The village also has a clinic (like a doctor's office), a motel, a fire station, and a care home for older people. You can even find a slalom slope for skiing and a campsite here! Ullared gets its water from an area called Ängaberg.
The area behind the Gekås parking lot is now Sweden's largest year-round campground. It has spots for RVs, tents, and cabins you can rent. There's a lake nearby for swimming. Buses take campers to Gekås and back, making it easy to shop.
Gekås keeps growing and is a big part of Ullared. In 2016, new multi-story parking lots opened to handle all the visitors. A small granite hill was even removed to build this parking. Gekås was started by Göran Karlsson in 1963 and is known as Scandinavia's biggest shopping center.
Geography of Ullared
Ullared is surrounded by several lakes, including Kinnasjön, Sonnerängssjön, and Musasjön. A stream called Högvadsån, and its smaller branch Hjärtaredsån, flow through the village. The village is surrounded by hills, which means it needs a special extra transmitter to get terrestrial television signals.
The northern part of the village, called "Furet", mostly has detached houses. The same goes for the southern and western parts. The center of Ullared is mainly for shops, and there's a small industrial area in the south called Hedens industriområde.
Ullared's Climate
Ullared has a mix of oceanic and continental weather. It's often considered one of the wettest places in Sweden. Because it's inland, temperatures can change a lot. For example, summer can have very hot days above 32°C (90°F), and winter nights can drop below -20°C (-4°F).
In winter, it often freezes and thaws, with both rain and snow. Summer thunderstorms are also common because of how different air masses meet.
