Ancient History and Archeological Sites
Union is home to some interesting historical spots. The Heyrman I archeological site was once a camping and stoneworking area for Native Americans. It's found on a sandy ridge near Highway 57.
Another important site is the Vandermissen Brickworks. This was the first place in Wisconsin where archeologists studied how bricks were made a long time ago.

The Town of Union was officially created in 1865. It was formed from a part of the nearby Town of Brussels. The people who suggested the name "Union" chose it because the community often worked together. They were "united" in their public matters, which made "Union" a fitting name.
Chaudoir's Dock: A Busy Port
Chaudoir's Dock was a very important place for shipping and work in the town. In 1874, the Chaudoir brothers were given permission to build and keep a dock and pier in the bay. Later, in 1944, the dock was sold to the county. This was done to make sure the dock stayed open for everyone to use.
