Union covers an area of about 8.6 square miles (22.3 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water. The Stillwater River flows along the eastern side of the city.

One important road, State Route 48, goes right through Union. This road is also known as Main Street in the city. Union is located just 4 miles north of Interstate 70, a major highway.
