A Look at UDD's History
How UDD Started
The Universidad del Desarrollo began in 1990. It was founded in Concepción, a city in Chile. The university started in a well-known family's home on Trinitarias Street. Some of its founders included Joaquín Lavín and Hernán Büchi.
Early Programs and Growth
The very first degree offered at UDD was in Business Administration. This program helps students learn how to manage businesses. The next year, more exciting subjects were added. These included architecture, journalism, and law.
In 1993, UDD opened its main campus. This was a big step for the growing university. A year later, programs for industrial engineering and social sciences were also started.
Becoming Independent
In 1997, UDD became fully independent from the Catholic University of Chile. This meant it could make all its own decisions. Two years later, UDD opened a new campus. It also welcomed students from another university, the Universidad de Las Condes.
New Campuses and Buildings
In 2001, UDD opened a new campus in San Carlos de Apoquindo. Most of the university's departments are located here. However, the Medical School and the Drama School stayed in the old Universidad de Las Condes building.
In 2006, a new building was opened in Concepción. This building is for the Health Area departments. It is very close to the main campus there.
UDD's Achievements and Rankings
