Upperco has a special fairground where many exciting events happen each year. The Maryland Steam Historical Society holds shows there. These shows feature cool steam engines and old-fashioned cars. You can also watch tractor pulls and explore a flea market.
The local volunteer fire company also uses the fairground for fundraising events. They host a thrilling demolition derby where cars crash into each other. There is also a bluegrass music festival with live bands. Around the holidays, they even have a fun yuletide village.
Our Local Heroes: The Fire Company
In 2017, the Arcadia Volunteer Fire Company joined forces with the Boring Volunteer Fire Company. Boring, Maryland, is only two miles away. Both companies were finding it hard to have enough people working.
Now, they are known as the Upperco Volunteer Fire Company (U.V.F.C.). They started working out of the old Arcadia building. They are also building a brand-new fire station nearby. Construction on the new station began in July 2021. It is a big project with a budget of $8 million.
