Exploring Upplands-Bro's Nature
Upplands-Bro is located by Lake Mälaren, a large freshwater lake. The area is known for its beautiful nature. Most people live in one of three towns: Kungsängen (with about 7,500 people), Bro (about 6,200 people), and Brunna (about 4,000 people). The rest of the municipality is mostly countryside, with a lot of land used for farming.
A Journey Through Upplands-Bro's History
Upplands-Bro is very proud of its ancient past. Its coat of arms even shows a figure from an old artifact. The area has some of the oldest historical sites in Sweden.
Ancient Times: Iron Age and Vikings
From the Iron Age, which was thousands of years ago, over 4,000 burial sites have been found here. These sites tell us a lot about how people lived long ago.
The area also has many remains from the Viking Age. These include 20 runestones. Runestones are large stones with special carvings called runes, which were an ancient alphabet. The figure on the municipality's coat of arms comes from a small bronze figure. This figure is only 3 cm tall and was found near Kungsängen.
Medieval Churches and a Fortress
Each of the six parishes in Upplands-Bro has a medieval church. These churches were built a very long time ago, between the years 1100 and 1400. They are important historical buildings.
In the 1400s, a strong fortress called Almarestäket was built in the municipality. It was located just east of where Kungsängen is today. This fortress was the home of the Archbishop of Uppsala, who was a very important religious leader in Sweden. However, in 1517, an archbishop named Gustav Trolle was trapped there. This led to the fortress being torn down in 1519. You can still visit the ruins of this old fortress today.
Modern Military Presence
Since 1970, a major military base has been located in Upplands-Bro. This base belongs to the Life Guards, a famous Swedish army regiment. This regiment trains soldiers who are conscripts (people who are required to serve in the military). They train different types of soldiers, including mechanized infantry (soldiers who use vehicles), Royal Guards (who protect the royal family), and military police. The Swedish Armed Forces International Centre (Swedint) is also based here. This center helps train soldiers for international missions.

Upplands-Bro Municipality has a good public transport system. It is part of the Stockholm public transport system, which is run by a company called SL.
The town of Kungsängen, which is the main town, used to be the end of the Stockholm commuter rail line. But in 2000, the train line was made longer. It now goes all the way to Bålsta in Uppsala County. A new train station was also built in Bro. Recently, a new place to store and maintain commuter trains has been built in the municipality.
