Urban Vermin is a fun Canadian cartoon show. It was made by Decode Entertainment for the YTV channel. The show had one season with 26 episodes. It aired from October 8, 2007, to August 30, 2008.
About Urban Vermin
Urban Vermin tells the story of two raccoon brothers, Abe and Ken. They used to be best friends. But then Ken decided to take over all the garbage on their block. He built an army of rats to help him.
Abe didn't like this at all! So, he created his own team of fighters. Their goal was to free the block from Ken's control. Abe's team is called the GLF, which stands for Garbage Liberation Front. Ken's army is simply known as TRA, or The Rat Army. It's a big fight for who gets the trash!
Meet the Heroes
Here are the main characters who fight for good:
Abe, the Brave Leader
Abe is a male raccoon and the leader of the GLF. He wears a cool lime green shirt, camouflage pants, and a green hat with goggles. Abe is very adventurous and brave. He loves Manchego cheese and has tons of energy.
He's great at planning and always tries to do what's right for all vermin. Abe carries a special antenna staff and a tape measure. He has a funny fear of ladybugs. Abe loves to play pranks on his brother, Ken. He also loves molten chocolate cake.
Abe leads the GLF from a secret control center. It's hidden deep inside a backyard tree. He believes there's enough garbage for everyone to share. Abe and Ken have always had a rivalry. Now, Abe is the good guy, and Ken is the bossy, evil dictator.
Coco, the Smart Inventor
Coco is a female flying squirrel and the GLF's mechanic. She used to work for Ken. But she switched to Abe's side to use her amazing brain for good. Coco was the best student at Vermin High Rocket Scientist School.
She once invented a time machine that could go half a second into the past! Later, she found a shed full of parts. She started inventing super useful things there. Ken heard about her and offered her a lifetime supply of French fries to work for him.
Coco realized Ken was making everyone unhappy. So, she joined Abe. She's very stubborn but also a genius. She knows Nigel likes her, but she pretends not to notice. Coco took ten years of accordion lessons, which is a funny fact about her.
Nigel, the Strong Mole
Nigel is a male mole and the muscle of the GLF. He is super strong, like ten vermin in one! He's also great at digging tunnels. But he can't see very well, like most moles.
Nigel was the second member to join Abe's team. Abe was once ambushed by rats, and Nigel saved him. Nigel is very loyal and always happy. He loves to tell long stories and jokes, even if they aren't very funny.
He grew up in a family of funny moles. But Nigel wasn't as good at comedy as his siblings. He has a big crush on Coco but is too shy to tell her.
Madman, the Wacky Skunk
Madman is a skunk who thinks in very strange ways. This can be both a problem and a huge help. His unique ideas often save the team. He talks nonsense all the time, using different voices.
But sometimes, he'll say exactly the right thing at the perfect moment. He joined the GLF by eating all their recruitment posters! He thought they were tasty. Before that, he was a skunk from a town called Stinkton. He was adopted by a human family.
Other Friends and Allies
- Chuck – A chipmunk who wants to join the GLF. Madman is his hero.
- TeDe (TD) – A skunk and the leader of the Stink Club.
- Winston – A skunk from Stinkton, Madman's hometown. He is Madman's twin brother.
- Biffy – A mole and Nigel's nephew. He has a red mohawk.
- Hans Flix – A Marmot who lives with his mother.
- Juanita – A raccoon and the mayor of The Block. She likes Abe, and Madman has a big crush on her.
- JP – An informant for both the GLF and Ken's Rat Army. He stays hidden and doesn't pick sides.
- Nero – A super-smart robot chihuahua. Zitzy made him stronger and faster, but Nero joined the GLF.
The Villains
These are the bad guys trying to control the block:
Ken, the Greedy Brother
Ken is Abe's brother and the main bad guy. He was spoiled as a kid. Now, he wants to control all the garbage on The Block. The GLF is the only thing stopping him from taking over completely.
Ken's closest friend is a pink flamingo scepter named Penelope. He often talks to her. Ken is selfish, lazy, mean, and very proud. He cheats at games like hopscotch. He runs his operations from an old Ice Cream Truck. He calls it The Lair.
No-Neck, the Rat Colonel
No-Neck is a dirty rat who is the leader of Ken's Rat Army. He runs a strict army. But he also enjoys playing the harp, collecting tiny cocktail umbrellas, and singing karaoke.
Zitzy, the Tricky Scientist
Zitzy is Ken's evil scientist. He is a possum who faints a lot when he gets frustrated. He joined Ken's team after Coco left. He lied on his resume to get the job.
Zitzy tries to use Coco's old plans. But he often makes things blow up. He thinks he's a genius and believes the world of evil needs him.
Ken's Minor Villains
- Fake Mommy – A thief who tricks both Ken and Abe. She steals their things.
- Kim Jong Shrill – He works for Ken's army. But he hates dirt and tries to betray Ken and No-Neck. His name is a funny play on a real person's name.
Cool Gadgets and Items
- Alleycat – This is the GLF's special toy car and war machine.
- Krusher – Ken's super big monster truck.
- B.A.G. 3000 – A dangerous weapon Coco created. It makes vermin laugh. Zitzy later tried to copy it, but Madman destroyed his version.
- Robotic Juanita – Zitzy created this robot. Ken wanted it to become the new mayor of The Block.
- Dirty Donut Machine – Zitzy also made this. It creates dirty donuts that turn vermin into zombies!
- Space-Time Continuum Harp – Coco made this harp. It was supposed to stun vermin at a talent show. But Coco made a mistake and opened a hole in time!
- Kazoo of Doom – This old kazoo was used in a war long ago. It can control rats.
Where to Watch
Jetix Europe bought Urban Vermin to show it in Europe. Buena Vista International Television helped distribute the show there.
