Discovering Vaggeryd Municipality
Vaggeryd Municipality is a great place to explore. It has a rich history and beautiful nature. Let's learn more about what makes this area special.
Nature and Wildlife in Vaggeryd
A very large nature reserve called Stora Mosse is partly in this municipality. It also stretches into the nearby Gnosjö Municipality. This huge area covers about 100 square kilometers. A big part of it, 77 square kilometers, is a protected nature reserve.
Much of Stora Mosse is made up of boggy grounds and swamps. This makes it a very important home for many different kinds of birds and other animals. You can easily get there by car. There are also guided tours often, and you can walk on over 50 kilometers of paths.
History and Industry of Vaggeryd
People have been working with iron in this area since the Iron Age. This was a very important activity for the people living here. It continued through the Middle Ages and was still important until the 1800s.
The Vaggerydstravet horse track is also in the municipality. Here, people can enjoy horse races and even place bets. Vaggeryd had many natural resources like iron, wood, and water. It also had good connections to bigger cities. This helped many different industries grow here.
In 1863, a company that made chairs started in the small town of Hagsfors. They made the famous Windsor chair. This chair later became a common piece of furniture in Sweden and was also sold in England. More wood and carpentry businesses started in the 1800s. Making different types of travel equipment was also important. Because of the focus on transport and connections, the wheel became a symbol for the municipality. You can see it on their coat of arms.
Other industries that use natural resources include paper manufacturing and pulp mills. Today, tourism is also a big part of the local economy.
Recently, some local people came up with the "Vaggeryd model." This idea helps different industries work together. About 30 other municipalities in Sweden have now started using this model.
