Vail is a community located in Pima County, Arizona, in the United States. It's about 24 miles (39 km) southeast of a larger city called Tucson. Vail is known as a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's an area that looks like a town but doesn't have its own local government.

In 2020, about 13,604 people lived in Vail. This number has grown a lot over the years. The area is famous for the nearby Colossal Cave, which is a large cave system. It's also close to the Rincon Mountains District of Saguaro National Park, a popular place for visitors in Arizona.

Vail started as a stop for trains on the Southern Pacific Railroad. It was a place where trains could get water and switch tracks. This spot was chosen because it was the last flat area before the train tracks went into the Cienega Creek bed.

The community was named after two early ranchers, Edward and Walter Vail. They started their ranches in the late 1800s. Edward Vail gave the railroad permission to build tracks across his land. Edward owned the Vail Ranch, and his brother Walter owned the nearby Empire Ranch. The Empire Ranch is now part of the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area. People in Vail have tried to make it an official town with its own government, but these attempts were not successful in 2013 and 2023.
