Valenciano Arriba is a small area, also called a barrio, located in the town of Juncos, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 1,202 people lived there. It is a part of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, which is a commonwealth of the United States.
A Glimpse into History
Puerto Rico has a rich history. After the Spanish–American War ended, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened under the rules of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became an unincorporated territory of the United States. This means it is a part of the U.S. but does not have all the same rights as a state.
In 1899, the United States government counted all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. They found that the combined population of Valenciano Arriba and a nearby area called Valenciano Abajo was 1,206 people.
