The Vallecito Mountains are a mountain range found in the Colorado Desert. They are located in eastern San Diego County, in Southern California. These mountains are about 28 miles (45 km) north of the U.S. border with Mexico.
Geography of the Vallecito Mountains
These mountains are part of the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. They stretch from east to west. You can find them southwest of a place called Ocotillo Wells. They are also south of Highway 78.
The Vallecito Mountains are about 15 miles (24 km) long. Their highest point is Whale Peak. This peak reaches an elevation of 5,349 feet (1,630 m) above sea level.
Other mountain ranges are nearby. The Laguna Mountains are to the southwest. The Volcan Mountains are to the northwest. To the north, you'll find the Pinyon Mountains and the Borrego Valley. South and southeast of the Vallecito Mountains are the Sawtooth Mountains, Tierra Blanca Mountains, and Jacumba Mountains.
