Van Buren is a small community located in Aroostook County, Maine, in the United States. It's known as a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a special area defined for counting people, but it's part of the larger town of Van Buren. In 2010, about 1,937 people lived in the CDP. The entire town of Van Buren had a population of 2,171 people at that time.

Where is Van Buren Located?

The Van Buren CDP is found in the southeastern part of the larger town of Van Buren. The Saint John River forms the northeastern edge of both the CDP and the town. This river also marks the border between Canada and the United States.

U.S. Route 1 runs right through the middle of Van Buren. This road can take you about 24 miles northwest to Madawaska or 23 miles south to Caribou. Another road, U.S. Route 1A, joins Route 1 near the southeastern part of Van Buren. It follows the Canada–US border south for about 21 miles to Limestone. There's also a bridge over the Saint John River in Van Buren that connects to Saint-Léonard, New Brunswick in Canada.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the Van Buren CDP covers a total area of about 4.4 square miles (11.5 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 4.2 square miles (10.8 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.3 square miles (0.7 square kilometers), is water.
