Varna is a small village located in Marshall County, Illinois, United States. In 2020, about 375 people lived there. It is part of the larger Peoria area.
The village got its name from Varna, Bulgaria, a city in Europe.

Geography of Varna
Varna is in the eastern part of Marshall County. It is located northeast of where two main roads, Illinois Route 17 and 89, meet.
Roads and Travel
Illinois Route 89 runs through the western side of Varna. It is known as Pine Street. This road goes north about 6 miles to Magnolia. It also goes south about 4 miles to La Rose.
Illinois Route 17 is along the southern edge of the village. It is about half a mile south of the village center. This road leads west about 9 miles to Lacon. Lacon is the main town for Marshall County. Route 17 also goes east about 11 miles to Wenona.
Land and Water
Varna covers a total area of about 0.30 square miles. All of this area is land. No part of the village is covered by water.
Water flows from Varna in two directions. To the west, small streams flow into Shaw Creek. To the east, another stream flows into Sandy Creek. Both Shaw Creek and Sandy Creek are part of the Illinois River system. This means their water eventually reaches the Illinois River.
Lake Wildwood Community
About 3 miles northwest of Varna is a special community called Lake Wildwood. It is a large, private area with a lake. This community was built in the 1970s.
The lake itself is man-made and covers about 220 acres. It was created on Shaw Creek. In 2015, a project helped to protect the water source of Shaw Creek. This project stopped natural dirt from getting into the water.
