History of Marshall County
Marshall County was created in 1839. It was formed from a part of Putnam County. The county got its name from John Marshall. He was a very important judge, the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. He passed away in 1835.
Geography and Nature
Marshall County covers a total area of about 399 square miles. Most of this area, about 387 square miles, is land. The remaining 12 square miles, which is about 2.9%, is water. The county is split into two parts by the Illinois River. This river flows right through the middle of the county.
