Varnville is a town located in Hampton County, South Carolina, in the United States. In 2010, about 2,162 people lived there. Varnville is like a "twin town" with Hampton, which is the main town of the county. These two towns often have shared events and activities.

History of Varnville
Varnville was started by the Varn Brothers in 1872. They sold land for railroad tracks to go through their sawmill. This happened even before Hampton County was officially created.
In 1878, Hampton County was formed from Beaufort County. The main town for the county was set up about 3 miles (5 km) northwest of Varnville. This new town eventually became Hampton. Varnville grew because it was close to Hampton and connected to nearby farms.
A fun fact about Varnville is that parts of the famous movie Forrest Gump were filmed there in 1993. Some of these scenes were used to create the made-up town of Greenbow, Alabama, in the movie.
The Hattie J. Peeples House is an important building in Varnville. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992 because of its historical value.
Geography of Varnville
Varnville is located in the northern part of Hampton County. It is right next to the town of Hampton on its northwest side.
U.S. Route 278 is the main road that goes through Varnville. It is called Carolina Avenue in town. This road goes northwest into Hampton and south about 28 miles (45 km) to Ridgeland. South Carolina Highway 63 goes east from Varnville about 27 miles (43 km) to Walterboro. You can also reach Yemassee, which is about 17 miles (27 km) southeast, by taking US 278 and SC 68.
The United States Census Bureau says that Varnville covers a total area of about 3.8 square miles (9.9 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water.
