Vasiliy Vladimirovich Berezutski (born June 20, 1982) is a Russian football coach and a former player. He played as a defender. Vasiliy started his professional football journey in 1999 when he was 17 years old. He played for Torpedo Moscow after training at their famous academy.
Vasiliy often played for the Russia national football team. He reached 100 games for his country on September 6, 2016. He could play in different defensive positions, like a central defender or a right-back. Sometimes, he even played as a wing-back or a midfielder.
Vasiliy began playing football at the Smena sports school in Moscow. Later, he joined Torpedo. His identical twin brother, Aleksei, also trained at the Torpedo academy. Aleksei also became a defender and played for CSKA Moscow. Vasiliy officially stopped playing football on July 21, 2018.

Playing for His Country
Vasiliy scored his first goal for the Russian team during a Euro 2008 Qualification game. This was against Macedonia.
He was chosen for Russia's team in the Euro 2008 tournament. He came on as a substitute in a game against Greece. He also started in the semi-final match against Spain.
Vasiliy was picked for Russia's team for UEFA Euro 2012. However, he had to leave the team before the tournament. This was because of a thigh injury.
On June 2, 2014, he was part of Russia's team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He was also made the team captain for this tournament. He was selected again for Russia's team for Euro 2016. In their first game against England, he scored a goal in injury time. This goal made the score equal.
Vasiliy officially stopped playing for his country on March 7, 2018.
Becoming a Coach
After retiring as a player, Vasiliy started a new career as a coach. On January 3, 2019, he and his twin brother Aleksei joined the Dutch club Vitesse. They worked as assistant coaches for Leonid Slutsky. Slutsky had coached them when they played for CSKA and the national team.
In August 2020, Vasiliy returned to CSKA Moscow. He became an assistant coach to Viktor Goncharenko. His brother Aleksei joined him there in February 2021. In April 2021, Goncharenko left CSKA and joined FC Krasnodar. Vasiliy followed him to Krasnodar as an assistant. Aleksei stayed at CSKA.
On January 5, 2022, Krasnodar let go of Goncharenko and Vasiliy. Just five days later, on January 10, 2022, Vasiliy went back to CSKA. He became an assistant to his brother Aleksei, who had become the head coach. On June 15, 2022, both brothers left CSKA by agreement.
In early 2024, Vasiliy moved to the Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua. He was again an assistant coach to Leonid Slutsky.
On November 25, 2024, Vasiliy Berezutski signed a contract with the Azerbaijani club Sabah. He became the team's head coach. He led Sabah FK to a victory in the Azərbaycan Kuboku 2024/2025 Round of 16. The team won 2:2 (3:1 on penalties) against Turan Tovuz PFK.
On June 14, 2025, Vasiliy's contract with Sabah ended by agreement.

CSKA Moscow
- Russian Premier League: He won the top Russian league six times with CSKA. These wins were in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2012–13, 2013–14, and 2015–16.
- Russian Cup: He won the Russian Cup seven times.
- Russian Super Cup: He also won the Russian Super Cup five times.
- UEFA Cup: A big achievement was winning the UEFA Cup in the 2004–05 season.
Russia National Team
- UEFA European Football Championship: He helped Russia win a bronze medal at Euro 2008.

- He was named one of the 33 best football players in the Russian championship nine times.
