Early History of Vaughn
Vaughn got its name from a person named W.D. Vaughn. He was one of the first people to settle in this area, arriving around the year 1851.
Vaughn as a Port
For many years, Vaughn was a very important port for the Key Peninsula. From the 1870s to the 1920s, people and goods traveled to and from Vaughn by water. A group of steamboats helped connect Vaughn and other nearby communities along Case Inlet. These boats were like the buses or trains of their time, moving people and supplies.
