Venice is a small city in Madison County, Illinois, United States. In 2020, about 1,498 people lived there. This number was a bit lower than the 1,890 people who lived there in 2010.

History of Venice
Venice was first planned out and marked on a map in 1841. This process is called "platting."
Geography and Location
Venice is located in the southwest part of Madison County. It sits at coordinates 38°40′26″N 90°10′4″W.
Where Venice is Located
The city is surrounded by other towns. To the north and east, it borders the city of Madison. To the south, it borders Brooklyn in St. Clair County. To the west, Venice is next to the Mississippi River. Across the river is the big city of St. Louis, Missouri.
Size and Water Area
Venice covers a total area of about 1.85 square miles (4.79 square kilometers). Almost all of this area is land. Only a tiny part, about 0.002 square miles (0.005 square kilometers), is water.
Roads and Bridges
Illinois Route 3 runs along the west side of Venice. This road goes north about 19 miles (31 km) to Alton. It also goes south about 4 miles (6 km) to East St. Louis. The McKinley Bridge is an important bridge that crosses the Mississippi River. It connects Route 3 in Venice to Interstate 70 in St. Louis.
