Venus de Milo, often called just Venus, is a special character from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe. She first appeared in the TV show Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation. In this show, Nicole Parker played her, and Lalainia Lindbjerg was her voice. Venus was the first female turtle in the franchise. She was also the only turtle named after a famous work of art, instead of an artist, until Jennika joined the team in 2019.

Venus's Story

Venus was one of five baby turtles who were changed by a special chemical called mutagen. This happened in the sewers of New York. When Splinter gathered the other four turtles, he accidentally left Venus behind.

She somehow ended up in Chinatown. There, a ninja magician named Chung I found her. Chung I took the little turtle to China and raised her like his own daughter. He named her Mei Pieh Chi and taught her the ways of the Shinobi, a type of ninja training.

Meeting the Turtles

Chung I sometimes visited the world of dreams. There, he met Splinter, and they shared stories about their turtles. They kept their turtles a secret until the right time. Chung I also had a special glass mirror that trapped evil humanoid Dragons. His job was to make sure these Dragons never escaped.

The Dragons eventually found a way into the dream world. They attacked Chung I and captured Splinter's spirit. As he was dying, Chung I told Mei Pieh Chi about her true past. He said her real home was in New York.

So, the female turtle traveled to New York. She found the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles watching over their master, Splinter, whose spirit was gone. After helping the turtles defeat Shredder and the Foot Clan, she led them on a "dream walk" to rescue Splinter's spirit. But, without her knowing, the Dragons used this chance to escape into the real world.

Becoming Venus

To celebrate their victory, the five turtles and Splinter had a picnic. But the Dragons attacked them. During the fight, a statue of a woman got damaged, and its arms broke off. After winning the battle, Mei Pieh Chi took the broken statue back to the turtles' lair. This made the other turtles give her the nickname Venus de Milo, just like the famous statue. This also matched how the other turtles were named after artists.

Venus had lived a very protected life in China. In the TV show, she often seemed unaware of many things about Western life and culture. She was also sometimes a bit naive about life in general. While she was good at fighting, Venus wasn't trained in Ninjutsu like her brothers. Instead, she often used mystical orbs in battles, with different levels of success.

The show made it clear that even though the four male turtles were raised as brothers, none of them, including Venus, were related by blood. This was done so that Venus could possibly have a romantic relationship with one of the male turtles. There were hints that she might be interested in Raphael or Leonardo.

Venus and the other turtles even teamed up with the Power Rangers in Space in an episode called 'Shell Shocked' in 1998.

More Adventures Online

After the TV show ended, an unofficial "second season" was created on the official website. It had letters "written by" each of the turtles. One of these was "Venus' Venerations," which told about Venus's adventures with the turtles.

Later, when one of the co-creators, Kevin Eastman, sold his part of the property, "Venus' Venerations" was stopped. Venus's letters were removed from the website, but the other turtles' letters stayed. No one explained why Venus suddenly disappeared.

Venus in Comics

In the Image Comics series, the writer Gary Carlson was given a few rules about what not to do. One rule was: "No female turtles." However, Venus was made fun of in the twelfth issue of the third comic book volume. An alien named Lurch changed into a female turtle who looked a lot like Venus. Some comic issues even had the slogan: "No girl turtle guaranteed."

Venus in Other Shows

  • In an episode of Robot Chicken called "Moesha Poppins" (2007), Venus made a very quick appearance. It was a "Where Are They Now" skit, and it showed that after being kicked off the team, she tried to flush herself down the toilet and drowned.
  • In an episode of the 2012 TMNT animated TV series, Raphael painted a female turtle-human picture on the side of the Turtles' new Party Wagon. Donatello liked it a lot. The painting was named "Venus."
  • In a season 2 episode of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, called "The Clothes Don't Make the Turtle," Raphael accidentally punched a moving statue bust of a female magician. Leonardo caught it and told Raphael off for almost breaking "Venus de Magic, the Queen of quick-change!" This was a clever nod to how Venus "quickly changed" the Ninja Turtles story.
