Victor Amadeus of Savoy (born Vittorio Amedeo Filippo Giuseppe; May 6, 1699 – March 22, 1715) was a young prince from the House of Savoy. He was the oldest son of Victor Amadeus II, who was the Duke of Savoy. His mother was Anne Marie d'Orléans.

From the moment he was born, Victor Amadeus was the heir to the Duchy of Savoy. This meant he was next in line to become the ruler. Because of this, he was given the special title of Prince of Piedmont. He even served as a Regent for a year, from September 1713 to September 1714, when his father was away. Sadly, he passed away at the age of 15 from a disease called smallpox.

Who Was Victor Amadeus?

Victor Amadeus was the fifth child and the first son born to his parents. He was given the names Vittorio Amadeo Giovanni Filippo when he was baptized. He was very close to his father throughout his life. His father loved him very much and even named him after himself. Even though his parents were not very close to each other, Victor Amadeus also had a good relationship with his mother.

The Prince of Piedmont was born in Turin, Italy, in May 1699. He was the brother of Princess Maria Adelaide and Queen Maria Luisa of Spain. In 1713, he acted as a regent for the Duchy of Savoy. This meant he helped govern the duchy when his father was not there. He was also the heir to the Kingdom of Sardinia.

There were plans for him to marry Elisabetta Farnese. This marriage would have created a strong connection between the Duchies of Savoy and Parma. However, this marriage never happened. Elisabetta later married Philip V of Spain.

Before April 11, 1713, the young prince was known as "His Highness." But after this date, his title was changed to "His Royal Highness." This was a higher and more important title.

Victor Amadeus passed away in Turin on March 22, 1715. He had caught smallpox, a serious illness. He was first buried at the Cathedral of Saint Giovanni Battista. Later, his body was moved to the Basilica of Superga, which is a beautiful church outside Turin.
