Viktoria Aleksandrovna Komova (born January 30, 1995) is a famous retired Russian artistic gymnast. She won two silver medals at the 2012 Olympic Games. She was also a world champion on the uneven bars in 2011 and 2015. At the junior level, she won many gold medals, including at the 2010 Youth Olympics. Viktoria was known for her smooth movements and classic gymnastics style.

Early Life and Family
Viktoria Komova was born in Voronezh, Russia. Both of her parents, Vera Kolesnikova and Alexander Komov, were successful gymnasts. Her mother even won a gold medal at a world championship. Viktoria has an older brother named Alexander.
Junior Gymnastics Career
Viktoria started gymnastics when she was five years old. Her mother was her first coach for three years. When she was seven, Gennady Yelfimov became her coach. Viktoria once said, "Now, gymnastics is my life. I can't imagine my life without it."
First Competitions
In December 2007, Viktoria competed in her first big junior event, the Voronin Memorial Cup. She won first place on vault and floor exercise.
In 2008, she competed at the WOGA Classic in Frisco, Texas, and placed third overall. She also finished third at the 2008 Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships. Later that year, she won first place in the all-around, vault, and floor exercise at the Voronin Memorial Cup.
Winning Gold Medals
In July 2009, Viktoria competed at the 2009 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival in Tampere, Finland. She won three gold medals: in the all-around, uneven bars, and balance beam. She continued her success at the 2009 Junior Japan International Competition. There, she won the all-around, uneven bars, and balance beam. She also placed second on vault and third on floor exercise. She ended 2009 by winning the all-around, uneven bars, and floor exercise at the Voronin Memorial Cup.
In March 2010, Viktoria won the all-around at the 2010 Russian Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
At the 2010 European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Championships in the United Kingdom, she helped the Russian team win first place. She also won the individual all-around final. In event finals, she won gold on vault and silver on balance beam.

In August 2010, Viktoria competed at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. She won the all-around competition. In the event finals, she won gold on vault and uneven bars, and a bronze medal on floor exercise.
Later in 2010, she won gold on uneven bars and silver on balance beam at the "Freddy Cup" Italian Grand Prix. In December, she sprained her ankle, which stopped her from competing in the Voronin Cup.
Senior Gymnastics Career
2011: World Champion
In February 2011, Viktoria re-injured her ankle. She had surgery in Germany in May to fix it. She started training again in July.
In August, she competed at the Russian Cup. She placed second in the all-around. She won gold on uneven bars and balance beam. In September, she won gold on uneven bars at a World Cup event in Belgium. She also won the all-around at the Dinamo Cup in Russia.
In October, Viktoria competed at the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan. She helped the Russian team win a silver medal. In the all-around final, she also won a silver medal. She then won a gold medal on the uneven bars.
2012: Olympic Medals
In May 2012, Viktoria competed at the European Championships in Brussels, Belgium. She helped the Russian team win a silver medal. She also won gold on uneven bars.
In June, she won the all-around at the Russian Cup. She also won gold on balance beam and silver on floor.
London Olympics Experience
In July 2012, Viktoria competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. She qualified in first place for the all-around final. In the team final, she helped the Russian team win a silver medal. In the individual all-around final, she won another silver medal. She later said she was proud but a little disappointed because she wanted gold. 2013-2014: Injuries and Comeback
Viktoria took a break from competing in 2013 due to a back injury. She was also diagnosed with viral meningitis, which prevented her from competing at the World Championships.
She returned to competition in April 2014 at the 2014 Russian Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She helped her team win first place. However, she had to withdraw from the European Championships due to another ankle injury and had surgery in Germany. She later performed in exhibitions and won a small competition in Hungary.
2015: Another World Title
In June 2015, Viktoria returned to major international competition at the European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan. She helped her three-person team win the gold medal.
In September, she competed at the Russian Cup. She was later chosen for the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. She focused on vault, uneven bars, and balance beam. In the uneven bars final, she scored 15.366, which led to a rare four-way tie for first place! She shared the gold medal with three other gymnasts.
2016-2018: More Challenges and Return
In 2016, Viktoria had to withdraw from the Olympic team due to severe back pain. Doctors found a stress fracture in her back, and she had to rest for six months. She slowly returned to training.
In December 2017, she competed at the 2017 Voronin Cup and finished second in the all-around. In 2018, she competed at the Russian National Championships, finishing third in the all-around. She also placed third in the all-around at the Russian Cup.
2019: Retirement
In January 2019, Viktoria Komova was not on the national team roster, which suggested she had retired. At the Russian National Championships that year, she was not competing but was commentating instead. Her retirement became official on January 1, 2019.
Gymnastics Skills
Viktoria Komova has two special uneven bars moves named after her in the official gymnastics rulebook, the Code of Points. These are called Komova I and Komova II. Both are difficult moves that involve flying through the air.

Later Life
As of May 2020, Viktoria was asked to become a judge for women's artistic gymnastics. In June 2022, she married Valery Gorshkov, a Russian ice hockey player. They welcomed a child in May 2023.
