Villa Carlos Paz is a lively city in the province of Córdoba, Argentina. It's located in the southern part of the Punilla Valley, nestled against the western side of the Sierras Chicas mountains. About 56,000 people lived here in 2001.
The Punilla Valley is a very popular place for tourists in Argentina. Villa Carlos Paz is the most important city in this valley. It's only about 36 kilometers (22 miles) from Córdoba City, which is the capital of the province. This makes it easy for many visitors to come.

Geography and History
Villa Carlos Paz sits right on the southern shore of the beautiful San Roque Lake. Two waterways flow through the city: the San Antonio River and the Los Chorrillos Stream.
The city was started by a rancher named Carlos Nicandro Paz on July 16, 1913. That's where the city gets its name!
An old road with hanging bridges was built in 1918. This road connected Villa Carlos Paz to the Traslasierra Valley. Later, in the 1950s, a new road called the Camino de las Altas Cumbres replaced it.

The Loyal Dog, Capitán
In 2012, a heartwarming story came from Villa Carlos Paz about a dog named Capitán. For six years, Capitán would go to his owner's grave every evening and sit there. What made this even more amazing was that his family had never taken him to the graveyard. Capitán found the grave all by himself!
The director of the city's cemetery, Héctor Baccega, said that the first time he saw Capitán, the dog arrived alone. Capitán walked around the cemetery a few times before finding his owner's grave. He continued to visit the grave every day at 6:00 p.m.
Rally Races
The city has often been a base for the Rally Argentina car race. In 2010, the streets of Villa Carlos Paz were even used for a special part of the race. The city also hosted stages of the famous Dakar Rally in 2015 and 2016.
Wildfire Evacuation
On October 11, 2023, people in the town had to leave their homes because a wildfire was getting close to the city.
