Villa Puerto Edén is a small village and port in Chile. It is located on Wellington Island in the Magallanes Region. This village is known as one of Chile's most isolated places. Only Easter Island and Villa Las Estrellas are more cut off.

Puerto Edén is also special because it is home to the last few Kawéshkar people. These are native people of the region. Because of many large tidewater glaciers and heavy rain, you can only reach the village by boat. Ferries from Puerto Montt or Puerto Natales visit regularly. A boat also comes once a month from Caleta Tortel.

In 2002, the village had 176 people. There are no roads in Puerto Edén due to the very wet climate. Instead, people use wooden boardwalks to get around. These boardwalks connect all the houses and shops. A boat comes weekly to take local fish and shellfish, like mussels, to markets. Margarita Vargas López, who was part of the Chilean Constitutional Convention, grew up in this unique village.

What is the Climate Like in Puerto Edén?

Villa Puerto Edén has an extremely wet climate. It is called a subpolar oceanic climate (Köppen Cfc). This means it has cool, but not freezing, temperatures and lots of rain. It is often said to be the place with the most frequent rainfall in the world.

However, the Guinness World Records states that Bahia Felix, a bit further south, had the most rainy days. In 1916, Bahia Felix had only eighteen days without rain! Puerto Edén gets a huge amount of rain each year. It is similar to Little Port Walter in Alaska Panhandle. The rain is spread out evenly throughout the year. Even in its driest month, Puerto Edén still gets a lot of rain.
