Villaz is a town in Switzerland. It is located in the canton of Fribourg. Villaz is part of the Glâne district.
On January 1, 2020, two smaller towns joined together. These were Villaz-Saint-Pierre and La Folliaz. They merged to create the new municipality of Villaz.

History of Villaz
The area that is now Villaz has a long history. Before it became one town, it was made up of several smaller communities.
Early Mentions of Villaz-Saint-Pierre
The town of Villaz-Saint-Pierre was first written about in 1177. Back then, it was known as Villa.
Villarimboud's Beginnings
Another part of Villaz, called Villarimboud, was first mentioned even earlier. Its name appeared in records in 1142 as Vilarrimolth.
Lussy Through the Ages
Lussy, another historic area, was first recorded in the 12th century. Its old name was Lussiei.
How La Folliaz Was Formed
Before Villaz was created, La Folliaz was also a new municipality. It was formed on January 1, 2005. This happened when the towns of Lussy and Villarimboud merged.

Villaz covers an area of about 5.4 square miles (14.2 square kilometers). This measurement comes from a survey done between 2004 and 2009.

Getting Around Villaz
Villaz has its own train station. It is called Villaz-St-Pierre. This station is on the main train line that connects Lausanne and Bern. From Villaz-St-Pierre, you can easily travel. There are regular trains to Romont FR and Fribourg/Freiburg.
