La Folliaz (Arpitan: La Folyê) was a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It was located in the Glâne district of the Fribourg canton.
La Folliaz was created on January 1, 2005. It was formed when two smaller towns, Lussy and Villarimboud, joined together. Later, on January 1, 2020, La Folliaz merged with another town, Villaz-Saint-Pierre, to form a new municipality called Villaz.

A Look Back: History of La Folliaz
The area where La Folliaz was located has a long history. One of its original parts, Lussy, was first mentioned in old records way back in the 12th century. Back then, it was known as Lussiei.
Understanding the Geography of La Folliaz
La Folliaz covered an area of about 9.9 square kilometers (3.8 square miles) as of 2009. Most of this land, about 75%, was used for farming. Forests covered nearly 19% of the area.
About 6.4% of the land was developed with buildings or roads. A very small part, less than 1%, was made up of rivers or lakes, or was unproductive land.
In the developed areas, about 4.1% had houses and other buildings. Roads and other transportation paths made up 1.8%. All the forested land was covered with thick forests. For farming, 45.5% of the land was used for growing crops, and 28.2% was used for pastures where animals graze. A small part, 1.3%, was used for orchards or vineyards. All the water in the municipality was from flowing rivers or streams.
La Folliaz itself was a linear village, meaning it stretched out along a road. It also included the village of Villarimboud and several scattered farmhouses.
Who Lived There: Demographics of La Folliaz
As of the most recent count, La Folliaz had a population of 988 people. About 3.5% of the people living there in 2008 were foreign nationals. Over ten years (from 2000 to 2010), the population grew by about 2.9%. Most of this growth came from more births than deaths.
Most people in La Folliaz spoke French as their main language (96.5% in 2000). German was the second most common language (2.2%), followed by English (0.5%).
In 2008, the population was almost evenly split between males (50.6%) and females (49.4%). Most residents were Swiss citizens.
Looking at the age groups in 2000:
- About 14.9% of the population were children aged 0 to 9 years old.
- Teenagers aged 10 to 19 made up 17.5%.
- Young adults aged 20 to 29 were 10.9%.

In 2010, La Folliaz had a low unemployment rate of 2.3%. This means most people who wanted to work had jobs.
As of 2008, many people worked in the primary economic sector, which includes farming. There were 109 people employed in this sector, with 35 businesses. The secondary sector, which includes manufacturing and construction, employed 22 people across 4 businesses. The tertiary sector, which covers services, employed 66 people with 16 businesses.
In 2008, there were 170 full-time equivalent jobs in La Folliaz.

Learning and Schools: Education in La Folliaz
The school system in the Canton of Fribourg has several stages:
- One year of non-mandatory Kindergarten.
- Six years of Primary school.
- Three years of mandatory lower Secondary school, where students are grouped by their abilities.
- After lower Secondary, students can choose a three or four-year optional upper Secondary school. This can be a gymnasium (which prepares students for university) or a vocational program (which teaches job skills).
- After upper Secondary, students can go to a Tertiary school (like a college) or continue with an apprenticeship (on-the-job training).
During the 2010-2011 school year, 99 students attended 5 classes in La Folliaz. A total of 166 students from the municipality went to school, either in La Folliaz or nearby towns.
In La Folliaz itself, there were:
