Villaz-Saint-Pierre was once a small town, or municipality, in Switzerland. It was located in the Glâne district of the Fribourg area. This area is known as a canton in Switzerland.
On January 1, 2020, Villaz-Saint-Pierre joined with another nearby town called La Folliaz. Together, they formed a brand new municipality named Villaz.

A Look at History
Villaz-Saint-Pierre is quite old! Its name first appeared in records way back in 1177. Back then, it was simply called Villa.
Where is Villaz-Saint-Pierre?
Villaz-Saint-Pierre covers an area of about 5.6 square kilometers (2.2 square miles). This is how the land was used in 2009:
- Most of the land, about 61.5%, was used for agriculture. This means farms and fields.
- About 23.6% of the land was covered by forests.
- Around 13.2% of the land had buildings or roads.
- A small part, 0.5%, was rivers or lakes.
In the built-up areas, 5.7% had houses and other buildings. Roads and transportation took up 5.2%. All the forested land was covered with thick trees. For farming, 32.0% of the land grew crops. The municipality included two main villages: Villaz-Saint-Pierre and Fuyens. Fuyens became part of Villaz-Saint-Pierre on January 1, 1978.
