Vine Grove is about 11 miles (18 km) southeast of Elizabethtown, which is the main city of Hardin County. If you travel about 18 miles (29 km) northwest, you'll reach Brandenburg on the Ohio River. Fort Knox, a well-known military base, is only 5 miles (8 km) northeast of Vine Grove, just past Radcliff.

The city has a stream called Brushy Fork, which flows west into Otter Creek. Otter Creek then flows north along the western edge of Vine Grove and eventually joins the Ohio River.
