Sigmund Jähn: Germany's First in Space
Did you know that the very first German astronaut (or cosmonaut) was born right here in the Vogtland? His name is Sigmund Jähn. He made history by traveling to space.
Jähn's hometown is a small village called Morgenröthe-Rautenkranz. This village is located in the southwestern part of the Vogtlandkreis. If you visit, you can find a small exhibition about space travel there. It's a cool place to learn about space!
