Vyacheslav Vsevolodovich Ivanov (21 August 1929 – 7 October 2017) was a very important linguist from the Soviet era and later Russia. A linguist is a scientist who studies languages. Vyacheslav Ivanov mostly studied the history of languages.
His main area of study was Indo-European languages. This is a large family of languages that includes many languages spoken today, like English, Spanish, Hindi, and Russian.

Vyacheslav Ivanov passed away in Moscow on 7 October 2017. He was 88 years old.
