Wales took part in the 2018 Commonwealth Games! These exciting games happened in Gold Coast, Australia, from April 4 to April 15, 2018. This was the 21st time Wales had competed in the Commonwealth Games, showing up at every event since they first began in 1930.
A talented swimmer named Jazz Carlin had the special honor of carrying the Welsh flag during the opening ceremony.

Athletics: Running, Jumping, and Throwing
Team Wales had 26 athletes competing in athletics. This included 14 men and 12 women. They showed great strength in various events.
- Olivia Breen won a gold medal in the Women's long jump (T38) and a bronze medal in the Women's 100 metres (T38).
- Hollie Arnold earned a gold medal in the Women's javelin throw (F46).
- Melissa Courtney took home a bronze medal in the Women's 1500 metres.
- Bethan Davies also won a bronze medal in the Women's 20 kilometres walk.
Boxing: Punching for Medals
Wales sent 7 boxers to the games: 4 men and 3 women. They fought hard and brought back some impressive medals!
- Sammy Lee won a gold medal in the Men's light heavyweight category.
- Lauren Price also secured a gold medal in the Women's middleweight event.
- Rosie Eccles earned a silver medal in the Women's welterweight division.
- Mickey McDonagh won a bronze medal in the Men's lightweight category.
Cycling: Speed on Two Wheels
Wales had 21 cyclists competing in road, track, and mountain bike events. They raced with incredible speed and skill.
- Elinor Barker won a gold medal in the Women's points race on the track.
- Jon Mould earned a silver medal in the Men's road race.
- Para-cyclist James Ball, with pilot Peter Mitchell, won two silver medals in the Men's tandem 1 km time trial B and Men's tandem sprint B.
- Lewis Oliva also won a silver medal in the Men's keirin event.
- Dani Rowe took home a bronze medal in the Women's road race.
Diving: Graceful Jumps
Aidan Heslop was the only diver representing Wales, a special moment as he was the first Welsh diver in 20 years at the Commonwealth Games. He competed in the 3 metre springboard and 10 metre platform events.
Gymnastics: Strength and Style
Wales had 13 gymnasts (5 men and 8 women) showing off their amazing routines in artistic and rhythmic gymnastics.
- In artistic gymnastics, Latalia Bevan won a silver medal in the Women's floor exercise.
- In rhythmic gymnastics, Laura Halford earned a silver medal in the Women's hoop event.
Hockey: Team Play on the Field
Both the Welsh men's and women's hockey teams qualified for the games, each with 18 players. They faced tough competition in their pools.

Lawn Bowls: Rolling to Victory
Wales had 17 lawn bowlers and their directors competing. They showed great precision and teamwork.
- Daniel Salmon and Marc Wyatt won a gold medal in the Men's pairs event.
- Laura Daniels earned a silver medal in the Women's singles.
- In the mixed para-sport pairs, Gilbert Miles (with director Byron John) and Julie Thomas (with director John Wilson) won a bronze medal.

Shooting: Aiming for Gold
Wales sent 11 shooters (8 men and 3 women) to compete. They showed great focus and precision.
- David Phelps won a gold medal in the Men's 50 metre rifle prone event.
- Michael Wixey also earned a gold medal in the Men's trap event.
- Ben Llewellin won a silver medal in the Men's skeet.
- Chris Watson and Gareth Morris won a silver medal together in the Queen's Prize pairs.
- Sarah Wixey took home a bronze medal in the Women's trap.
Squash: Fast-Paced Racket Sport
Wales had 4 squash players (2 men and 2 women). They played in singles and doubles matches.
- Tesni Evans won a bronze medal in the Women's singles event.
- Joel Makin had a strong performance, reaching the semi-finals in Men's singles.
Swimming: Making Waves
Wales had a team of 14 swimmers (5 men and 9 women). They competed in various freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly events.

Table Tennis: Quick Reflexes
Wales had 4 table tennis players (1 man and 3 women). They competed in singles, doubles, and team events.
- Para-sport player Joshua Stacey won a bronze medal in the Men's TT6–10 singles event.
Triathlon: Swim, Bike, Run
Wales had 4 triathletes (2 men and 2 women) who competed in individual and mixed relay events. Triathlon is a tough sport that combines swimming, cycling, and running.
- Non Stanford finished 8th in the Women's individual event.
- The mixed relay team, including Non Stanford, Iestyn Harrett, Olivia Mathias, and Chris Silver, finished 6th.
Weightlifting: Lifting Heavy for Wales
Wales had 16 weightlifters and powerlifters (8 men and 8 women). They showed incredible strength and determination.
- Gareth Evans won a gold medal in the Men's 69 kg weightlifting event.
- Laura Hughes earned a bronze medal in the Women's 75 kg weightlifting.
Powerlifting
Three Welsh athletes competed in powerlifting.
- Nerys Pearce finished 4th in the Women's heavyweight category.
Wrestling: Grappling for Glory
Wales had 2 male wrestlers competing. They showed their skill and strength on the mat.
- Kane Charig won a silver medal in the Men's freestyle -65 kg event.
- Curtis Dodge earned a bronze medal in the Men's freestyle -74 kg event.
